Consent Cards

Namaste and Sat Naam

You may have seen our consent to touch cards at the studio during one of your classes with us, these cards are a reminder to you of the sacredness of your body and an acknowledgement of our respect for your physical and emotional space. No one should ever touch your body without your consent.

We want you all to know how much we value your trust, and we want to remind you that your practice is YOUR practice. We are here as supportive guides on your path.

Sometimes in our classes we may offer an adjustment with the intention to help to support you safely in a posture, or perhaps a gentle foot massage during savasana to assist in a deeper relaxation. This may not be something that would support you, not all of us like to be touched, and everyday looks different for each of us depending on what’s happening in our life circumstances.

Our teachers will only offer supportive therapeutic touch with your consent.

Touch is personal, and we take  you, your needs on a day to day basis, and your practice very seriously.  We all have a different history that lives in our bodies and sometimes in yoga, as our bodies soften and relax into postures, emotions may arise.  This can sometimes happen in massage therapy and other forms of bodywork as well.  Our tissues hold our experiences and memories from the narrative of our lifetime.  When we feel supported we can safely allow  emotions to be experienced, and through our invitation of kindness towards ourselves we make space for healing and letting go at a deeper level to happen.

We have these cards at the studio, and in some classes you won’t see them as we don’t always offer hands on in all of our classes, but they will be used in our classes where adjustments or hands on support may be offered.  You always have a choice, and there is empowerment in that choice.

We want to make sure you feel safe, supported and heard, these cards are another way we hope to be able to do that for you.

If we can do anything to support you better on your path to wellness, please don’t ever hesitate to let us know.

Yours in service, your yoga family at Surya Daya
